Proud plant-mom Madi Smith is from Pikeville Kentucky, a small mountain town in Appalachia. She currently works as a Quality Technician, ensuring that every part of our process upholds the high standard that Extract Labs sets for itself. Madi has worn many hats during her time with the company. When she was first brought on board, she would spend her days bouncing around helping with product formulations and shipping before becoming a member of our wholesale team. She made the move to our Quality Department to put her eye for detail and passion for perfection to work, helping ensure Extract Labs’ products remain the most trustworthy products on the market.
Madi has a degree in Human Services from Eastern Kentucky University, and worked in the childcare system for almost 5 years after college. She started as a daycare assistant in Kentucky before moving to Colorado and initially working as an assistant at a preschool program.
Madi was raised by very forward-thinking, post-hippie era parents. They taught her to get out and change the world one day, and to be kind while doing it. The sentiments they had instilled upon her are what started her down the path of helping with early education. Helping kids grow and learn seemed to fit the bill and satisfy her craving for a higher purpose.
From kids to cannabis
Things changed when she made a visit to Colorado about a year before her eventual move. She flew out to Loveland, Colorado with a friend to check out the opportunities the industry held for young people looking for a change. She met Craig, and fell in love with the enthusiasm he held for hemp’s future in Colorado. The potential for the future of hemp and how it can help change people’s lives instantly pulled at Madi’s instincts to change the world. The seed for a career in cannabis was planted in Madi’s mind, and would begin to bloom when her and a friend moved to Colorado a year later.
“My family has always been major advocates for cannabis use in its many forms so working in this industry just seemed like a natural fit with all things considered!” Madi says. “I think hemp has the potential to be the most beneficial plant known and being part of an industry that understands its importance makes me feel very lucky.”

A: “Nothing in This Book is True but It’s Exactly How Things Are” by Bob Frissell – puts a nice perspective on theories of who we are and where we come from.
Q: What’s the best thing you’ve ever watched on Netflix?
A: Ugh, this is probably the most difficult question to answer…if I had to pick, I would say Broken – really shows you how we as people impact the world and what we can do to advocate for a more sustainable future.

A: Never give up! This industry is drenched in passion and if this is something you want, take it and run with it. There’s so much potential for growth and change in this industry and it’s never too late to get started and help us change the world!
