CBD gummies are a fun and easy way to enjoy the benefits of CBD. They’re a delicious and discreet way to get your daily dose of this powerful cannabinoid. While you can easily buy pre-made CBD gummies from Extract Labs, making your own at home can be a rewarding and cost-effective way to enjoy these tasty treats. Not only can you control the dosage and quality of the ingredients, but you can also customize the flavor to your liking. In this CBD guide, we’ll show you how to make your own CBD gummies in just a few easy steps.

    At Home CBD Gummies Recipe

    Servings

    30 to 40 Gummies

    Prep Time

    15 Minutes

    Total Time

    1 Hour

    Ingredients

    • Silicone molds
    • 2 tablespoons of honey
    • 1 cup of fruit juice of your choice
    • 2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
    • Cooking spray
    • CBD Oil Tincture
    • Small bowl of sugar to coat the finished gummies

    Extract Labs Tip:

Silicone candy molds are readily available online. You can buy classic shapes for CBD gummy bear recipes, simple shapes like cubes or squares, or ghoulish shapes like bats and brains. Make sure that they are bite-size molds, so you get an appropriate serving of CBD. Anything too large would be impractical and difficult to dose

Instructions to Make CBD Oil Gummies

    Instructions

    1. First, add 1 cup of juice to a saucepan and heat until it is lightly simmering.
    2. Once the juice starts simmering, add 2 tablespoons of unflavored gelatin and two tablespoons of honey. Whisk all the ingredients together until they are fully blended into the liquid.
    3. Take the liquid off the heat. Add the desired amount of CBD oil. We recommend 4 to 8 milliliters (1 milliliter equals a full dropper) of 1000 or 2000 milligram oil tincture. If there are a lot of bubbles in the liquid, you can gently heat the whole mixture again to smooth it out.
    4. Spray a paper towel lightly with baking spray and lightly coat the molds with the oil.
    5. After the CBD is blended in, it’s time to start filling the molds. You can do this by carefully pouring from a pitcher or by using a large dropper to avoid spills and bubbles.
    6. Put the gummy molds into the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. If bubbles form on the top of the mold, you can scrape them away with a spoon. Some people do not like the texture this creates.
    7. Remove the gummies from the molds.
    8. Optional: Rolling each piece in a bowl of sugar coats the gummies for a finishing touch.

Frequently Asked Questions About CBD Gummies

A medium-size mold holds about 250 milliliters of liquid. That’s a little over a cup (236 milliliters). One cup of the liquid should make about 30 to 35 gummies. So say you add 528 milligrams (8 full droppers extra strength tincture) of CBD per recipe, that would be anywhere from 15 to 17 ounces of CBD per gummy. If you want a lower dose, add four droppers of extra-strength CBD for 7 to 8 milligrams of CBD per gummy.

To make gummies with CBD isolate, follow the exact instructions, except add around 250 to 550 milligrams of powdered isolate instead of oil tincture once you reach step three. Make sure to stir in the isolate until it is fully dissolved and evenly distributed.

That depends on how potent they are. We recommend beginners start with 33 milligrams up to twice per day.

Absolutely! CBD was legalized by the federal government in 2018. All cannabis that contains less than 0.3 percent is legal nationally, so have no fear (unless you're making gummies in a graveyard). One caveat to note is full spectrum CBD, which is an extraction that contains less than 0.3 percent THC, could result in a failed drug test.

You will want to store the finished candies in an airtight container in the refrigerator.  They will become too dense and too chewy to eat if kept out. Since these homemade gummies are not processed, they will not last as long as store-bought candy. We recommend eating the treats within two weeks. You can also make a large batch to freeze, which will store for the entire year. Keep in mind that frozen gummies will be chewier than fresh ones. Frozen gummies are still delicious and safe to eat.

Many people worry that adding CBD to heat will kill off the cannabinoids, and it’s true, you don’t want to overheat an oil extraction or isolate. But CBD doesn’t start to degrade until around 320 to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mixing CBD into the warm gelatin liquid would not damage the potency. You can get away with baking CBD at certain temperatures but don't add CBD to direct heat for dishes that require frying and sauteing. At these temps, certain benefits are likely to dissipate.

You can drizzle it on top of a dish, mix it with other oil-based ingredients like salad dressings, mix it into baked goods, and more.

Tips & Tricks for Making Gummies

The honey and fruit juice flavor the gummies. You can use whatever type of juice you want. For a healthier candy, opt for 100 percent fruit juice like pomegranate or lime. The honey will sweeten the recipe. If you have eternal life, a healthy alternative might not matter as much to you. Also, be sure to avoid pulpy juice, which would alter the texture of the gummy.

The unflavored gelatin binds the ingredients together and gives the gummies their texture. If you wanted to take an easier route, you could ditch the juice and honey and simply use traditional flavored gelatin and blend that with the unflavored gelatin. The unflavored gelatin creates a firmer texture, so just know that you must use unflavored gelatin in either version. Gelatin is derived from collagen from animals, so they are not vegan.

You will need the cooking spray to lightly coat the inside of the silicone mold, making it easier to release the gummies once they have solidified.

Finally, lab-tested CBD oil or CBD isolate is necessary to infuse the gummies.
