What is THC-O and What does it do?

THC-O is a precursor to delta-8 THC, meaning that it is created as other cannabinoids convert from their original state to delta-8 THC. If the delta-8 conversion process is halted before completion, it will yield pure THC-O distillate.

Currently, there is little research behind how THC-O interacts with the human body. Users have suggested it helps ease stress and some suggest it is more potent than high-doses of D9.

Being that THC-O is more powerful and readily absorbed by your body, there is an even greater chance of producing a failed test result.

On average the effects of THC-O can last around 2 to 6 hours, but individual experiences may vary.

Due to THC-O being the purest form of THC, many say that it is more potent than THC. THC-O is reported to being more psychedelic THC.

When most folks think of THC, they think of a single molecule responsible for the high-inducing effects that cannabis is traditionally known for. But did you know that Tetrahydrocannabinol has many different analogs? These include, but are not limited to, Delta 9 THC, Delta 8 THC, THCa, THCv, and our focus of this blog, THC-O. While this compound has been experiencing a surge in popularity recently, humanity has been aware of its existence for quite some time. And with cannabis laws loosening enough to allow research, more and more studies are being performed on what THC-O can do for humans.

    The Origin of THC-O

THCO can trace its humble origins back to Uncle Sam, with first reports of its discovery being listed on studies by the US military during the Edgewood Arsenal Experiments sometime between 1949 and 1974. The official reason why they were studying it has never been made publicly available, although there have been reports of recreational use of the compound during this time frame.

    How is THC-O different?

THCO is a precursor to delta-8 THC, meaning that it is created as other cannabinoids convert from their original state to delta-8 THC. If the delta-8 conversion process is halted before completion, it will yield pure THCO distillate. While delta-8 THC is hailed as being a less-potent alternative to traditional delta-9 THC, THCO is the polar opposite. Reports of potency comparison vary, with many claiming it is 2-5 times more potent that delta 9 THC. Because of this, and especially for those new to cannabis, caution is recommended in initial consumption until you understand how it interacts with your body.

The effects are thought to be so potent due to THCOā€™s fat solubility and membrane permeability. When metabolized, our bodies are able to absorb more of it since it is a acetylated version of THC.

    What Effects Does THCO Have?

Currently, there is little in the way of formal research behind exactly how THCO interacts with the human body. User reviews suggest consumers are using it to help ease stress. It is also common to see medical cannabis patients report that they have replaced their high-dose delta-9 routine with a relatively small amount of THCO due to how potent it is.

Will THCO Show Up On A Drug Test?

While the THCO molecule physically differs from the delta-9 THC molecule, the human body will metabolize it in a similar manner. This means that even though there are differences when consumed, your body will show the same evidence of consumption when being tested regardless. Being that THCO is more powerful and readily absorbed by your body, there is an even greater chance of producing a failed test result.
