How To Use CBD Oil For Anxiety

Anxiety disorders have a complex set of risk factors including genetics, brain chemistry, personality, and life events. Studies show that anxiety disorders are the most common mental condition, affecting 40 million Americans, or 18.1% of the population. Although common and highly treatable, only around 36% of those suffering receive professional treatment.

Anxiety is probably one of the most common uses for CBD out there. With many consumers looking to get off addictive prescription drugs, they are looking to the power of plant-based wellness to help keep them calm. To many, it’s any easy choice: an artificial pill with a long list of side effects or a product produced from a simple plant. But why does something that has been so heavily stigmatized for the past century have such a profound affect on the human body? CBD works by activating your body’s endocannabinoid system, a network of sensors built in to your nervous system activated by cannabis-derived compounds like CBD.

What the Science Says

Surveys show that around 17% of Americans are using CBD as part of their daily routine. Many say that CBD helps them keep their cool during stressful work days and get to sleep faster in the evenings. While much of the information floating around is anecdotal, more institutions are starting to publish research as to provide a scientific backing as to how exactly CBD works. Studies have shown that systematically administered CBD reduced acute increases in heart rate and blood pressure induced by stress, as well as delaying the anxigenic effects of stress in the EPM.

In another study, findings strongly suggested the potential for CBD as a treatment for anxiety disorders. CBD reduced experimentally induced anxiety in healthy controls, and also reduced the anxiety levels of patients with Social Anxiety Disorder. Limited results in healthy subjects also support the efficacy of CBD in acutely enhancing fear extinction, suggesting potential for the treatment of PTSD, or for enhancing cognitive behavioral therapy.

Overall, existing preclinical evidence strongly supports the potential of CBD as a treatment for anxiety disorders. CBD exhibits a broad range of actions, including anxiolytic, panicolytic, and anticompulsive actions, as well as a decrease in conditioned fear expression, enhancement of fear extinction, reconsolidation blockade, and prevention of the long-term anxiogenic effects of stress.

So how can CBD help me?

The short answer is: it depends. CBD affects everyone differently, so we cannot make any exact promises about individual results. What we can do is provide you with some tools that will give you the best chance at achieving the results you are looking for.

Be Consistent. Whether you are experiencing constant anxiety or have occasional spikes, regular CBD use will typically lead to more regular results. Even if you are feeling fine during your normal dosing time, make sure you don’t skip. If you experience anxiety spikes, take an additional dose when needed.

Don’t give up! While there may be stories out there of some people having these instant change-of-life moments, those are more rare than you would think. Give yourself time. Most of our customers find that they don’t instantly feel better, but when they take a break from CBD, how much the CBD had been helping them becomes apparent very quickly.

Listen to your body. If you find that CBD is helpful early in the day but begins to wear off around the same time in the afternoon, adjust your dosing accordingly. Consider adding a half dose around the time you usually begin to feel anxious again, or breaking up your morning dose into intervals throughout the day.
